Sizing Options and Support
Understanding Pioneer Sports Hoof Boots
Pioneer Sports Hoof Boots are modular boots where every part is
replaceable. The boots come fully assembled and ready to use, all you
need to do is fit them on your horse correctly.
Sizing is based on the boot width and length measurements, and a good fit is achieved by adjusting the straps and rear captivator position according to the individual horse’s needs.

The best fit starts with accurate measurements
Measure each hoof that you require a boot for.
Use our sizing calculator
After measuring the hooves, simply insert the hoof measurements in millimetres into the calculator to find out the correct boot size for your horse.
Keep in mind that hoof conformation and condition affects boot fit too. If in doubt, please contact us for individual advice before placing an order.

FAQ
When will other sizes be available?
After launching the most popular sizes in the regular boot style, we will focus on bringing the slim style boots in the most popular sizes to the market. This will happen in late 2026.
After that, we will expand the size options for both boot styles, so that larger sizes will be available as soon as possible.
When should I measure my horse’s hooves for hoof boots?
For the most accurate hoof boot sizing, it’s best to measure your horse’s hooves just before and right after a fresh trim because hooves naturally grow and change shape during a trim cycle. This allows you to see how much your horse’s hooves expand and ensures the boots will fit comfortably throughout the whole period between trims.
If your horse’s hooves are already close to the upper limit of a size just after trimming, it may be better to choose a size that allows room for growth.
If you’re unsure, you can send us your hoof measurements and photos by email to connect@pioneerhoofprotection.com, and we’ll help you choose the right size.
Are there separate boots for fronts and hinds?
No, you can use the Pioneer Sports Hoof Boots on both the fronts and hinds.
However, we will be releasing the narrow fit boot in late 2026, which will provide an even better fit on hooves that are longer than wide.
Is there a separate left and right boot?
No, the boots will work on either side.
Because the straps are identical on both sides of the boot, once you have determined the correct fitting adjustments, the inside straps can remain closed, and you only need to open the outside straps. This makes it easier to put the boots on and to take them off.
My horse has oddly shaped hooves. Will Pioneer Sports Hoof Boots fit?
Because Pioneer Sports Hoof Boots are self-adjusting, they often fit hooves that other hoof boot brands do not. With oddly shaped hooves, the best thing is to book an in-person fitting appointment with one of our authorised hoof boot fitters.
We are building a list of UK-based fitters, or if you’re based outside the UK, you can contact your nearest retailer for assistance.
Alternatively, you can contact us directly for free sizing and fitting advice via email and WhatsApp.
How do I choose the correct hoof boot size for my horse?
Choosing the right hoof boot size is based on:
- Hoof length
- Hoof width
- The shape and condition of the hoof
The most accurate way to confirm sizing is to book an appointment with one of our authorised hoof boot fitters. They can assess your horse in person and try on different sizes to find the best fit.
If an in-person fitting isn’t possible, you can still size your horse at home:
- Measure each hoof using our guide, and take photos of the hooves with the tape measure on them.
- Take clear photos of the hoof directly from the front and side, with the camera placed on the ground.
- Send your measurements and photos to us by email to connect@pioneerhoofprotection.com.
We’ll review everything and get back to you with personalised sizing advice.
If my horse’s hoof width falls into one size and the length falls into another, which size should I choose?
Hoof length is the more important measurement when sizing Pioneer hoof boots. The heels must not extend beyond the boot sole, so it’s important to ensure that length-wise, the hoof will fit inside the boot comfortably.
If the hoof’s width measurement is much smaller than the listed boot width measurement, this may have an impact on how well the boots fit and stay on.
If this is the case, we recommend that you contact us for detailed sizing advice.
What if my horse’s hoof measurements are between two sizes?
If your horse’s hoof measurements fall between two sizes, don’t worry, this is quite common.
The most important measurement when choosing Pioneer boots is hoof length, because the heels need to fit properly inside the boot.
It also helps to consider when the hooves were measured:
- If measured just after a trim, the hooves will likely grow, so choosing the larger size is usually best.
- If measured towards the end of the trim cycle, the smaller size may be the better option.
If the hoof width is much smaller than the boot width, this can affect how securely the boots fit, so it’s worth checking with us before purchasing.
If you’d like help, send us your measurements and hoof photos by email to connect@pioneerhoofprotection.com, and we’ll guide you to the best option for your horse.
